How to Make Your Umrah Visa Photo at Home (2×2 in to 200×200 px)
Skip the studio queue. With a phone, a white wall and this page, you can produce both versions of your Umrah visa photo — the 2×2 inch print and the 200×200 px digital file — using free tools that never see your face leave your device.
What the requirements commonly are
An Umrah visa application typically needs your photograph in two forms:
- The physical photo: 2×2 inches (51×51 mm), white background, recent — the size the consulate and printed documents use.
- The digital file: online portals commonly ask for a 200×200 px JPG under a small KB limit (portals commonly cite figures in the 5–100 KB range).
Two honest caveats before we start. First, requirements change: always confirm the exact figures on the official portal or with your licensed travel agent before submitting, because a notice from last year is not a promise about this one. Second, no one can guarantee acceptance — not us, not any studio. What this guide does is walk you through meeting the commonly published specifications correctly, step by step.
Step 1 — Take the right photo at home
Everything downstream depends on this shot, so take two minutes to get it right:
- Background: plain white or off-white wall. A white bedsheet taped flat to a wall works perfectly. No patterns, no doors, no shadows on the wall.
- Light: face a window in soft daylight. Do not use flash — it blows out one side of the face and darkens the background unevenly.
- Framing: phone held at eye level, about an arm's length away (or propped up with the timer). Head and top of shoulders in frame, face looking straight at the lens.
- Expression and dress: neutral expression, eyes open, mouth closed. Headwear only as your faith requires; glasses are best removed to avoid reflections.
Take several shots and pick the sharpest. Check the eyes are in focus and both sides of the face are evenly lit — that is what reviewers actually look at.
Step 2 — Make the 2×2 inch version
Open our passport photo maker and choose the 2×2 in (51×51 mm) preset. Upload your best shot, frame the head inside the guide, and download. You get a 602×602 px file at 300 DPI — the correct digital source of the 2×2 inch physical photo, which you can print at any studio or photo kiosk.
Step 3 — Resize to exactly 200×200 px
The portal does not want the print file; it wants a tiny square. Open our resize image tool, upload the 602×602 px photo, and set the dimensions to exactly 200 by 200 pixels. Because the source is already square, the resize is clean — no stretching, no distortion, no re-cropping needed.
Step 4 — Compress to the portal's KB limit
A 200×200 px JPG is usually small already, but portals still enforce a KB ceiling. Open our compress image tool, switch to Target size (KB) mode, and type the limit from the portal's notice. Download the result and verify both properties yourself: 200×200 px in your image viewer, under the KB limit in your file manager. If both check out, the file is ready to upload.
What this method cannot do
In the spirit of honesty this site is built on: our tools do not replace or remove photo backgrounds. If your wall was cream or your photo has a doorway behind you, no setting here will fix it — retake the photo against a plain white surface. And as stated above, meeting the specifications is not a guarantee of acceptance; the deciding factor is always the official review. What we can promise is that your photo was prepared correctly, privately — everything above ran inside your browser, so your face never travelled to any server.
The rejection reasons studios see most
Fix these before you submit and you avoid the common round-trip of rejection and re-upload:
- Busy or coloured background. The single most common rejection. Plain white only — not "close enough" beige.
- Shadows on the face or wall. Stand a step away from the wall and face the window straight on.
- Glasses reflections. Remove glasses for the photo unless you genuinely cannot; reflections are an instant fail.
- Wrong file uploaded. People frequently upload the big 2×2 inch print file to the portal instead of the 200×200 px digital version. Double-check the filename before submitting.
- Old photograph. Most notices require a photo taken within the last six months — do not reuse a five-year-old passport photo.
