Rotating only flips the page orientation setting — content is not re-rendered, so quality never changes. Works best with files under 100 MB.
What is the Rotate PDF tool?
Scanned documents and phone photos frequently end up sideways or upside down in the PDF — you tilt your head to read page 3, then page 4 is fine again. Rotating a PDF fixes the orientation of the pages so every page reads the right way up. Our free tool lets you rotate by 90, 180, or 270 degrees, applied to the whole document or just the pages you pick, and it downloads the corrected file in seconds.
Importantly, this tool does not re-draw or re-compress your pages. It only changes each page's rotation setting, which is a lossless operation — text stays selectable, images stay exactly as sharp as the original, and the file size barely changes. Everything happens locally in your browser, so there is no upload and nothing leaves your device.
How to use it (3 steps)
- Add your PDF. Drop it onto the zone or click to browse. The tool shows the total page count so you can reference pages accurately.
- Choose the angle and scope. Pick 90°, 180°, or 270°, then decide: rotate every page, or only specific ones — type them like 2 or 1,3-5.
- Click "Rotate PDF". The tool validates your page list, applies the rotation, and downloads the fixed file as rotated.pdf.
When you'll need it (use cases)
- Phone scans: you photographed pages holding the phone sideways — rotate the whole document 90° in one go.
- Mixed scans: a batch scan has two upside-down pages among twenty correct ones — rotate just pages 7 and 14.
- Landscape tables: a report's chart pages are sideways while the text pages are fine — rotate only the chart pages.
- Before printing: fix orientation first so the printer output reads correctly without anyone twisting the paper.
- Before merging: rotate the odd one out, then combine files with our Merge PDF tool so the final document is uniform.
Tips for the best results
- 90° clockwise is the most common fix for phone-held-sideways scans; 180° fixes upside-down pages.
- Use "only these pages" when most of the document is fine — it is faster and avoids accidentally turning correct pages sideways.
- Page numbers start at 1, and the tool checks them against your file's real page count, rejecting anything out of range with a clear message.
- Rotating is lossless: run it as many times as you like without any quality loss — the setting simply adds up.
- Password-protected PDFs cannot be opened in the browser — unlock the file first, then rotate.
